The researchers found that countries most heavily affected by infectious diseases generally had the lowest average IQs. They propose that these illnesses hinder children's brain development, though their conclusion is gathering mixed reviews."

it that dumb people would drink contaminated water in the first place or is it contaminated water that will leading to infections which would make you dumber? I go with the first one! Also this can go with education. People in third world countries are less educated about parasites and contamination therefore are more likely to conduct a parasitic disease.
