Illinois Beach State Park located in Zion, IL. I have visited this place before during every season. The park is located along the coastline of Lake Michigan in Northern Illinois. Camping sites are equipped with electric outlets; however, ours did not work :-(
The beach has a mixed composition of rocks and sand. The water is crystal clear, but tends to be cold depending on the weather. The picture on the left shows an abandoned beach house right south of Zion Nuclear Power Plant (out of service as well). I really wanted to find some pictures on the net showing this place in its bloom back in a day, but could not find anything. The architecture is quite interesting, but unfortunately inhabited by ghosts nowadays. Despite some negative scenery and asbestos traces (yes asbestos can be found on the beach), the place is very attractive, peaceful, and worth next visit.
